La programación contará con 13 películas, enmarcadas dentro de los últimos 50 años de la industria del cine, entre las que se encuentran documentales, largos, cortos y piezas de video arte (programación abajo y adjunta). Asimismo, se rendirá homenaje póstumo al cineasta peruano Roberto Guerra, fallecido el pasado mes de enero. La carrera de Roberto Guerra es, a los ojos de los especialistas, una de las más logradas del cine contemporáneo peruano, y prueba de ello son los premios internacionales que logró. Uno de sus últimos trabajos, Desing is one: Lella & Massimo Vignelli, hace un repaso del legado de dos de los más influyentes diseñadores del mundo.
Entre los invitados al Festival estará la prestigiosa directora de cine Claudia Llosa, sobrina del Premio Nobel de Literatura Mario Vargas Llosa y del también director de cine Luis Llosa. Su película La teta asustada obtuvo el Oso de Oro en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Berlín. Se proyectará El Mudo de los hermanos Daniel y Diego Vega, los cuales han sido galardonados con el Premio del Jurado de la sección oficial Una Cierta Mirada del 63º Festival de Cine de Cannes por su película Octubre. Asimismo, se pasará el último documental de la histórica cineasta Nora de Izcue, Responso para un Abrazo, que se ha interesado desde sus inicios en mostrar, a través de su cine, el modo en que la condición femenina se expresa cuando existen condiciones económicas difíciles, o en comunidades marginales o aisladas del resto del entorno social.
Esta última edición del New York Peruvian Showcase ha sido dirigida y producida por el fotógrafo y cineasta Lorry Salcedo Mitrani con la colaboración de UCP Backus y Johnston y la Fundación Wiese. Asimismo, este festival ha recibido el generoso apoyo de Guzmán Aguirre Altamirano, Martha Meier Miro Quesada, Ana Maria Estrada de Rosen y Carlos Sandoval de la Cruz, Presidente de la Provincia de La Libertad.
The New York Peruvian Film Showcase Returns for 5th Annual Event September 16 – 19, 2014
The Fifth Edition of the New York Peruvian Film Showcase (NYPFS) will be dedicated to Peruvian archeology and will take place from September 16 to September 19, 2014, at Instituto Cervantes, 211 East 49th St., New York City. This celebration of Peru’s historical legacy will present 13 films from the last 50 years, including documentaries, features, shorts, and video art, as well as an homage to the life and work of the Peruvian documentary film director, producer and cinematographer Roberto Guerra, who left us this past January. Guerra´s films are international in scope and of tímeles significance. Major networks in more than thirty-five countries have broadcast over thirty of his
films and many of them have been featured in international festivals in New York, Edinburgh, London, Cannes and Los Angeles.
On Friday September 19 the internationally acclaimed filmmaker Claudia Llosa will present her short film Loxoro, winner of a Teddy Award at the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival 2012. Llosa´s movie The Milk of Sorrow was the first Peruvian film to win the Golden Bear award in the 59th Berlin International Film Festival. The film selection will also present, among many other groundbreaking works, The Mute, from award winning emerging directors Daniel and Diego Vega, and Dirge for a hug, from the legendary filmmaker Nora de Izcue, who is best known for her projects that reflect the daily life of the humble communities of inner Peru.
The Fifth Edition of the New York Peruvian Film Showcase is directed and produced by the photographer and filmmaker Lorry Salcedo Mitrani, in collaboration with UCP Backus & Johnston and the Wiese Foundation.
